ART SMART
AFTER SCHOOL ART PROGRAM
ART SMART is an introductory course for primary school children who want to improve their artistic
skills through a range of fund and stimulating exercises. ART SMART nurtures the exploration of individual
creativity and expression through structured lesson plans outside the classroom context. all lessons are
taught by our specialist primary school art teacher. Enrol now to avoid disappointment!
Term Dates: Every Tuesday stating Tuesday 7 May 2013
Cost $120 per term. This must be paid upfront before commencement. Time: 3.30-4.30pm
Age Group: Kindergarten to Year 6
Places are limited to 15 Participants

Early Childhood
Early childhood tours are 30-45 minutes tours of the Gallery specially designed for young children and conducted
by trained Gallery Guides, a Gallery Educator is available on request.
Art Making Workshop
Hands on activities for small groups (<22), combined with a tour and related by theme.
1 hour pre-school workshop

Cost per student: min $7.50, max $8.50

Junior Art Trail
Children will explore art works through story telling, art making, songs and games with the Gallery's volunteer
guides. The trail will end with a tea party in the Gallery's toy kitchen, a chance for the children to play,
interact and re-fuel. Bookings essential, places limited to 12 children aged 3-5 and their carers.
Second Friday of every month, 10am to 10.45am
Morning Tea Not Provided, bring your own packed morning tea to consume in the Gallery at the end of

Learning to Look - discovery tours introduce students to works of art and their context through a 45-60 minute
discussion conducted by trained Gallery Guides, a Gallery Educator
is available on request.

Secondary
Visual Arts in Context 45-60 minutes and can be tailored to a theme of your choice and/or linked
to study areas conducted by Gallery Guides.
Artist Practice 45-60 minutes conducted by Gallery educators.
Examine the intentions of an artist, and the techniques, strategies and processes they use to get to the finished
product of 'the artwork' with specific reference to current exhibitions.
Visits to the Artist-In-Residence studio. There is a new artist in residence every year. The resident artists is
available to hold open studio times, talks, workshops and demonstrations for school groups by prior arrangement
with the Gallery Education Officer.
Art Making Workshop
1 hour high school workshop
$7.50 - $10 per student depending on workshop content
If this group is larger than 20, we can rotate a workshop with another activity such as tour of current
exhibitions (tours are free). *Longer workshops can be arranged upon request.
Full Day Excursion 10am - 3pm. Begin the day with a Gallery storeroom and exhibition tour. Complete an art making
workshop of your choice and end the day watching a Visual Arts or Art House DVD. Students are to bring their own
recess and lunch and teachers are expected to assist with student supervision. Teachers are encouraged to make
the content of excursions specific to their units of work at school.

Tertiary
Lectures, artist and curator floor talks, storeroom and exhibition tours are available for al tertiary students.

ESL (English as a Second Language) and NESB (Non-English Speaking Background) students - developing
language through tours that introduce students to works of art and their context through a 45-60 minute

Special Needs
Students who have an intellectual disability, deaf/hearing impaired or blind or vision impaired can enjoy guided
tours and workshops at Wollongong City Gallery. Modified tours and workshops are available for students who
have intellectual disability. Ausian interpreters can be arranged in conjunction with tours and workshops for
students who are deaf/hearing impaired. Selected sculptures from our collection form an interactive "touch"
tour for students who are blind/vision impaired.

Wollongong City Gallery can provide a diverse range of appropriate tours and workshops to suit the needs of
Community and Special Interest Groups. Contact the Gallery to create your own experience.

Enrichment Program
This program works in conjunction with the current exhibitions on show at the Gallery. This program provides
Visual Arts students across the Illawarra with a full day of visual art workshops, gallery and exhibition tours - a
great opportunity for your students to be creatively extended. All workshops are taught by specialist art teachers
using a variety of forms; drawing, painting, mixed media, printmaking and sculpture. Important aspects of the
K-12 syllabi are reinforced.
